Right Lads I know ye're all gonna come down on me like a tonne pf bricks for this but whats the story with all these collections around the Christmas period. Everytime I go in or out of a shop in town I get some kind of a bucket or pot shoved into my face with some decrepant looking individual staring up into my face, begging for money for some worthwhile charity or another. Now to be honest I'm as generous as the next guy and don't mind donating to anything thats really worthwhile but I've reached my end this year coming out of city square four different buckets were all shoved in my face at one time. Its ridiculous. I've even seen groups of kids rushing around estates miles from where there club that they're collecting for. (I mean did anyone ever hear of support your own first) but what bothered me most was they're club manager was in the middle of it all calling the shots. Deploying his minions (if you will) in what looked liked a well planned strategy. Forget looking for some Christmas charity from the goodness of peoples hearts this was more like a military operation. If Saddam had this guy on side we'd all be speaking Iraqui and wearing towels on our heads.
All this is leading to my biggest moan of all. The collections for this disaster in Asia. Now I agree it was terrible absoutely tragic but when will people realise that we can't just keep forking out cash. For example New Years night I encountered the first of the collections in a pub on Ballybricken and I contributed a fair ammount and figured thats my bit done I can go on now with a clear conscience but no the day after more buckets in my face I even went to Mass where they had another seperate collection and also where I heard the best line ever when the priest said if you've contributed already you needn't do it again. Yeah Right!!!! every eye in the Church was watching everything that went into that basket and by who, Now I know you're gonna say that just shows weakness in my character but I'm pretty sure you all know what I mean. Of course I had to go again, then back to work to face another collection and now just to really piss me off properly the Mayor wants people to knock on my door to ask me for more money.
I understand all this sounds like I'm a tight fisted old git but surely my point is valid, when will people realise we just can't keep giving. Surely at this stage everyone that wanted to contribute has done by now and if not then they just should have gotten off their arse sooner.

Re: Feckin Christmas Collections (Score: 1) by Mad-Blaa on Monday, January 10 @ 15:07:48 PST (User Info | Send a Message) http://www.mad-blaa.com | I have to agree with you QPRh8r, I have given more money to this Asia appeal than I ever had before in any appeal, this really was a horrendous disaster, but I really do resent this door to door collection, when ever it is happening. The worse kind of charity is the one where the giver has been shamed into it.
I admire your honesty! |
