I figure this subject has been done to death but it came up in conversation today and where better to complain about it but here with my favourite whingers.
Why can't the GAA give in and leave soccer into Croke Park? Why?
Okay they have their whole stand point on history and how only Irish games should be played there but unless I'm very much mistaken some of the money that went into paying for their lovely stadium came from the government, who would have gotten it from taxes and the like. Now this is the clincher, I pay taxes, okay not all the money is mine but I contributed and so did many other people who would like to see soccer in the new Croke Park.
More to the point again because of the closed minds of the GAA now when they start to do up Lansdowne Road Irelands home games will be played in England because they have no where else to play.
Furthermore I'm pretty sure the chances of getting a major competition to these shores would be increased if Croke Park opened its doors!
Note: I covered this already in my story entitled Will this thing ever Croke? but hey, why not someone else have an aul' rant about it!

Re: GAA Bastards (submitted by QPRH8ter) (Score: 0) by Anonymous on Thursday, June 03 @ 09:33:02 PDT | It is more to do with the fact that the GAA represents and recognises 32 counties as being one sporting body, not unlike Rugby or Golf or badminton etc, etc, etc. If they allow soccer to be played, whilst you still have both the FAI and IFA, it is a tacit recognition of the border, which, and I could be mistaken is not recognised by the Ga. So it is more than just no to foreign games, cause they would allow Rugby, if they were asked, but they havent been, thay have allowed American Football and Ausie Rules, but wont allow soccer for those very political beliefs.
And, me not being a very political person, reckon more power to them. If they have dogma that they believe in, let them believe in it, and operate how they say fit. |
